Principal’s welcome

Dear Parents, Carers, Future Parents and Community Members,
Welcome to the Sarina State School website. As principal of our school I have a strong belief that all students are entitled to a great education. We have a highly dedicated and hard-working staff of teachers, teacher aides and support staff that provide quality teaching, learning experiences and support services for all students on a daily basis.
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce the Sarina State School management team who work collaboratively with all staff to provide specialist support services, professional development opportunities and on-going coaching.
Glenn Hankinson - Deputy Principal
De’ann Robertson - Head of Special Education Services
Karen Chase – Guidance Officer
Helen Wardrop – Head of Teaching, Learning and Curriculum
Michelle Dempster – Head of Behaviour and Learning Support

We are extremely fortunate to be a well-resourced school with a large library offering a range of both fiction and non-fiction books. All classrooms are equipped with Interactive Whiteboards and we have invested heavily in ICT resources with class sets of iPads being introduced into classrooms from 2015 onwards. Our students also enjoy two fully equipped desktop computer labs as well as an impressive sports hall. The Special Education Program is managed by our Head of Education Services and provides our students with disabilities one-on-one support in the classroom or in small intensive groupings.
At Sarina State School we believe in quality teaching instruction in all classroom and our students are taught English and Mathematics through Explicit Instruction, Direct Instruction and Consolidation Lessons on a daily basis. We have also introduced internationally renowned whole-school Literacy and Numeracy programs to support the learning of our students.
Our Explicit Improvement Agenda for 2015 focuses on four major areas that all staff are working tirelessly to ensure the best educational outcomes for our students are being pursued in the following focus areas:
§  Reading
§  Writing
§  Numeracy
§  Attendance, Behaviour and Community Engagement (ABC)
We have begun to implement a range of unique initiatives at the school that are focussed on continually moving the school forward to ensure that a quality education is being delivered to the youth of the Sarina and the wider community.
We value parents and carers as important partners in their child’s learning and our school website has a range of resources that parents can access to support their child’s learning at home.
If you have a have any questions or queries regarding enrolling your child with us please contact the school to arrange an interview.
Yours in education
Steve Moore
